What is mark turgeon?

Mark Turgeon is an American basketball coach with a notable career in college basketball. He was born on February 5, 1965, in Topeka, Kansas. Turgeon played college basketball at the University of Kansas from 1983 to 1987 under legendary coach Larry Brown. After his playing career, he transitioned into coaching.

Turgeon began his coaching career as an assistant at various programs, including a stint at Kansas. He got his first head coaching position at Jacksonville State University from 1998 to 2000. He then moved to Wichita State University, where he served as head coach from 2000 to 2007. At Wichita State, he led the Shockers to significant success, including a run to the Sweet 16 in the 2006 NCAA Tournament.

In 2007, Turgeon became the head coach at Texas A&M University, where he continued to build on his reputation as a skilled program-builder. Under his leadership, the Aggies made several NCAA tournament appearances.

In May 2011, Turgeon was named the head coach of the University of Maryland men's basketball team, succeeding Gary Williams. During his tenure at Maryland, Turgeon led the team to multiple NCAA tournament appearances and developed several players who went on to play in the NBA. Turgeon's time at Maryland was marked by both successful seasons and criticisms from fans regarding postseason performances.

In December 2021, Turgeon and Maryland mutually agreed to part ways, ending his tenure with the team. Since then, Turgeon has been less visible in the public coaching sphere, and there haven't been widely publicized updates on his career direction after Maryland.
